Decadent Romance in new orleans

“Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans?”

A fine sentiment and a wonderful song immortalized in my ears by the late great Louis Armstrong. It describes the magic of this city that can capture you with its charm. Though it is a large modern city with all that entails, ask anyone who has been and they will describe their time in the French Quarter, Marigny, Bywater, or the Garden District. That’s where the draw is, that’s where you find that magic!

When an opportunity knocks you take it, especially if it’s a photoshoot in New Orleans!

This location I shot exemplifies the nature of that elusive magic from a bygone era. This home was built in 1890 just outside the French Quarter, and the photos only hint at the stories that the walls would tell. And to underline and bring forward the true aesthetic feel of it, I choose to capture this styled shoot with a 35 mm film camera.

And such as with my couple, Anna and Michael who drift in and out of the ethereal among the hanging Golden Pothos, the tastefully deteriorated walls, and the diffused sunlight of the afternoon.

Time moves slower in New Orleans because it wants to, and this shoot exemplifies that with Anna’s classic off the shoulder half sleeve gown and floor length veil. Michael compliments her completely in his crushed velvet smoking jacket, in crimson, just as the Peonies of her bouquet. Can’t you just imagine them reviewing their big day, laughing, dancing and celebrating in this home because they are supposed to be here, and just another part of that caught out of time, magic?

Doesn’t your mind just play some slow New Orleans Jazz with a hollow sound of a phonograph when you view these photos? Do you feel the draw yourself now to see New Orleans, or rather be a part of New Orleans for just for a moment to live in a magic of timelessness? There’s something about this city…
